RTE6510 – Passport QA reader

The RTE6510 is a passport quality assurance reader designed to read and verify OCRB codelines printed on Machine Readable Travel Documents (MRTDs) conforming to International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Document 9303.

The RTE6510 passport QA reader is used during the production of machine readable passports, visas and travel cards. Once the document has been printed it is read using the RTE6510 QA reader which provides a full analysis of the printed OCRB codeline(s), thus ensuring that all issued documents will meet the exacting quality standards for MRTDs set out in ICAO Document 9303.

The RTE6510 passport QA reader provides the host computer system with the following information; the codeline data, global analysis and line by line analysis. The global analysis includes the number of codelines read, the number of character columns, verification of the clear area around the codeline and details of any accidental marks or spots in the machine readable zone. The line by line analysis then gives the number of characters, the number of unrecognisable characters, the number of segmented characters, the vertical position of the codeline and details about stroke widths.

The RTE6510 passport QA reader captures the OCRB codelines in a single hand swipe of the document through the reader. The fast read algorithm is extremely tolerant of varying swipe rates and is unaffected by the security laminate used on passports, visas and travel cards. The captured data is transmitted to the host system with no further operator intervention. The compact design and small footprint make the RTE6510 passport QA reader ideal for desktop areas and an optional desk stand ensures it can be placed for maximum ease of use.

Operator training is minimal and, with no moving parts, the RTE6510 is virtually maintenance free.
