Winner of Queen's Award for Enterprise - 2001

The Queen's Award was conferred on Rochford Thompson in recognition of outstanding achievement in International Trade supplying Passport Reader solutions.

With customers including major international airlines and national governments, Rochford Thompson supplies the passport reader of choice around the world. When US Customs wanted to standardise on a passport reader for loan to airlines as part of its APIS program in 1998, they chose a solution exclusively supplied by Rochford Thompson.

Rochford Thompson multifunction readers automatically read encoded information on passports, visas, ID cards and airline tickets. Once a document has been "swiped" the captured data is used to speed up the process of airport check-in and immigration control. Currently, Rochford Thompson has over 25,000 readers installed in more than 60 countries, with its products winning universal praise for ease of use and ability to provide fast and accurate processing of travel documents.
