Rochford Thompson wins ID card business

06 March 2007

Spanish Police Officers charged with responsibility for issuing and policing the country’s new ID cards will be issued with Rochford Thompson scanners to ensure that the cards are accurate before they are issued.

Rochford Thompson counts major Governments, the US Department of Homeland Security, global corporations, airlines, and financial institutions amongst its customers – and its advanced scanning technology is being used for everything from financial security systems to immigration border control.

Spain’s 44 million* citizens are currently being issued with identity cards at more than 500 regional police stations across the country, and the firm has won an order through IT integrator (and main contractor) Indra to supply scanning equipment to each of the stations.  So far, just over half have been delivered.

Once the card has been produced, by a system provided by Indra, it is read at the police station to ensure its accuracy.   The printed codeline on the cards is produced to the same standards required for modern passports, and it is the data in this line which is being checked.

“It is probably inevitable that identity cards will become accepted across the world, and I am delighted that we have been asked to support Indra in producing a practical, cost-effective, secure and highly efficient system for the Spanish police,” said Rochford Thompson Managing Director Chris Scorey.
